Resistance Bands 101 Class

An Introductory Class Teaching You How To Use Resistance Bands
Class Description: Resistance bands provide an excellent way to increase your strength while allowing for a variety of resistance levels that are perfect for beginners and advanced exercisers alike. Resistance bands can also be used almost anywhere, from a home setting to an office suite setting or a fitness center to a hotel room when you’re travelling, resistance bands are lightweight and easy to pack. Register for this class if you are new to using resistance bands or if you’re wanting a refresher on how to use them. The four sessions will cover 1) an intro to using the bands plus exercises for your upper body 2) exercises for your core 3) exercises for your lower body 4) putting the exercises together into a full body workout. An active Wellness Recreation Membership is required to register for this class. Class size is limited to 20. Registrants must purchase their own equipment, on their own, and have it with them by the date of the first session. For this class, it is recommended to have a resistance band package that includes: resistance bands with handles, a door anchor, and ankle straps. Kick-Start To Fitness And Nutrition

  • This 4 session class that meets Wednesdays, from noon-1:00pm, on September 23, 30, October 7, and 14. This class meets virtually through Zoom.

Feeling like you need something to get you kick-started towards a healthier you? This class is the perfect choice!
Class Description: This class includes 4 live Zoom sessions where we’ll exercise together as a group performing both strength and cardio bodyweight exercises with varied options of intensity. Knowing your own body, you get to pick the option that works best for you. Plus, this class includes 1 individual private nutrition education session through Zoom, scheduled on a date and time other than the Wednesday sessions, where we’ll discuss your personal MyPlate Daily Checklist results and any tips that can help you bring your eating habits to the next level of healthy. An active Wellness Recreation Membership is required to register for this class. Class size is limited to 20. This class is instructed by Kerry Howell, Cornell Wellness staff. Virtual Bootcamp Series

  • Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, October 6-29, 5:30pm-6:30pm
  • Provided virtually through zoom. Registration available through September 29.

Move yourself back into shape this October by participating in this virtual Fall Bootcamp Class Series. For 4 weeks, join Cornell Wellness staff, Jeremy Stewart, two times per week, as he leads you through a number of body weight and light weight exercises designed to keep your heart pumping. This class is perfect for anyone looking to build both strength and stamina with little to no equipment. Equipment that would be helpful but not required for this class are light dumbbells, kettlebells, and resistance bands. If this equipment isn’t available to you, no problem! We can substitute with various objects around the house such as backpacks with books in them, jars of soup, a gallon of water, etc. This Bootcamp series is appropriate for all levels of fitness. Stability Ball 101 Class

  • This 4 session class that meets Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:00pm; October 13, 20, 27, & November 3. This class meets virtually through Zoom.

Whether you call it a stability ball, a Swiss ball, or an exercise ball, it is a useful and versatile piece of equipment. Most often used to introduce instability, the ball can help you improve balance and strength. However, it can also be used to stabilize exercises, allowing you to focus on the movements themselves. Register for this class if you are new to using a stability ball, concerned about how to use one safely, or if you’re wanting to add variety to your existing workouts. The four sessions will cover 1) an intro to using the ball plus how the ball can enhance other exercises 2) exercises for sitting on the ball 3) exercises for using the ball on the ground 4) putting the exercises together into a full body workout. An active 1-year Wellness Recreation Membership is required to register for this class. Class size is limited to 20. Registrants must purchase their own equipment, on their own, and have it with them by the date of the first session. For this class, it is recommended to have a stability ball and an exercise mat. Medicine Ball & Slam Ball 101 Class

  • This 4 session class that meets Wednesdays, from 3:00-4:00pm; October 28 & November 4, 11, 18. This class meets virtually through Zoom.

Are you looking to add more power into your workouts? Have you seen people throwing a ball at the gym and wondered what they were doing? Have you wanted to try it, but never felt like you knew what you were doing? Then this class is for you! Medicine Ball & Slam Ball 101 will introduce the basic principles of using a weighted ball and provide you with the skills to complete your workouts confidently. Register for this class if you are new to using a weighted ball, concerned about how to use one safely, or if you’re wanting to add variety to your existing workouts. The four sessions will cover 1) an intro to the weighted ball -- including the major differences between medicine balls and slam balls 2) using the ball to enhance more traditional exercises 3) momentum & throwing exercises 4) putting the exercises together into a full body workout. An active 1-year Wellness Recreation Membership is required to register for this class. Class size is limited to 20. Registrants must purchase their own equipment, on their own, and have it with them by the date of the first session. For this class, it is recommended to have either a hard, bouncy medicine ball or a softer, non-bouncy slam ball; an exercise mat; and a secure wall surface & floor against which you can toss the ball. The Fitness Pact: Make The Pact, To Join The Pack

Class description: This group is bound to get you moving more. Together you'll set fitness goals, try new things, and keep each other motivated to keep moving. Kick-Start To Ski Season

Looking forward to dusting off your skis as the snow begins to fall? What would it be like to prepare and strengthen your body before you get on your skis? This kick-start workshop is a good fit if you have always found yourself jumping into ski season without preparing beforehand. We will explore strength exercises that will compliment all forms of skiing. Our time will be spent practicing exercises and creating personal strength workout templates that will work for each of us as we wait for winter to come. Dumbbells 101 Class

An Introductory Class Teaching You How To Use Dumbbells
Class Description: Dumbbells can be used to add weight to a multitude of movements that result in building strength within your muscles. Building strength leads to burning more calories, improved posture, better bone density, and more. Register for this class if you are new to using dumbbells or if you’re wanting a refresher on how to use them. The four sessions will cover 1) an intro to using dumbbells plus exercises for your upper body 2) exercises for your core 3) exercises for your lower body 4) putting the exercises together into a full body workout. An active 1-Year Wellness Recreation Membership is required to register for this class. Class size is limited to 20. Registrants must purchase their own equipment, on their own, and have it with them by the date of the first session. For this class, it is recommended to have two pairs of dumbbells of different weights. For example, two 5lb dumbbells and two 8lb dumbbells or two 10lb dumbbells and two 15lb dumbbells.
